Kerio Technologies acquires WebSTAR from 4D

Kerio Technologies, a leading global provider of Internet security software and secure messaging solutions, has announced its acquisition of the WebSTAR product portfolio from 4D, a software provider based in Clichy, France. 4D WebSTAR is a complete messaging system designed for Mac OS X. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed though Kerio Technologies obtains access to 4D WebSTAR’s customer base and technology.

“The addition of the large WebSTAR user community is a natural fit for Kerio Technologies’ growing customer base,” comments Michael Osterman, President of Osterman Research. “Another example of the continued consolidation in the messaging market, this acquisition will strengthen Kerio Technologies’ competitive position in the Mac market.”

The WebSTAR name has been associated with Mac-based email technology for over 10 years. Today 4D WebSTAR and 4D Mail have several thousand customers worldwide.

Kerio Technologies will work with existing 4D WebSTAR customers to seamlessly transition them to Kerio MailServer. A simple migration tool will be developed for these customers and will be offered at no additional cost. Kerio plans to incorporate relevant parts of WebSTAR technology into Kerio MailServer. Kerio will provide specialised technical support to existing 4D WebSTAR and 4D Mail customers until the close of 2006 and plans to maintain the stability of the latest release of these products for one year.
