Utimaco Debuts SecurE-Mail Gateway 5.0: Adding Powerful Administrative Features

Oberursel (Germany) and London (UK), January 17 2006 – Utimaco Safeware, one of the leading suppliers of data security solutions, announces the release of SecurE-Mail Gateway 5.0, the latest version of its industry-leading enterprise e-mail security product. In addition to its powerful standard features including encryption/decryption and centralised administration, SecurE-Mail Gateway 5.0 adds valuable new enhancements including role-based administration that allows security staff to implement company-specific guidelines for monitoring and managing corporate e-mail systems.

Utimaco’s SecurE-Mail Gateway is the most efficient and cost-effective central manager for secure e-mail administration. It guarantees secure e-mail communication by attaching signatures to e-mail and automatically checking their validity, yet is completely transparent for its users. With SecurE-Mail Gateway, all of an enterprise’s electronic communication is seamlessly protected against unauthorised viewing and/or misuse.

Via SecurE-Mail Gateway 5.0’s new role-based administration, security staff can keep all areas of administrative responsibility separate and distinct from each other. The feature ensures that areas of responsibility of IT security staff and network administrators never overlap; it also allows security staff to establish an auditor role to oversee security policies.

Another primary component of SecurE-Mail Gateway is the integrated key server for S/MIME and OpenPGP email, offering convenient and centralised administration and distribution for public keys used by an enterprise’s communications partners. With SecurE-Mail Gateway, certificates and keys can automatically be separated from e-mails and then imported. The technology enables certificates to be administered effectively even when e-mail traffic levels are very high.

To further ensure workload distribution and greater fail safe security, SecurE-Mail Gateway can be clustered. As all relevant data, including rules and certificates, is stored in a central database, clusters can be implemented with minimal cost and effort.

“The new functionality in SecurE-Mail Gateway 5.0 is based on the many years of experience Utimaco has gathered during numerous customer projects ranging from medium sized enterprises to international industrial groups,” said J?¶rg Horn, security expert at Utimaco. “When working to further develop our security solution, we place particular emphasis on the requirements of multinational companies that have clearly defined areas of work and functionality, without losing sight of the necessity to keep the solution as easy to implement and administer as possible.”

Along with its new features, SecurE-Mail Gateway 5.0 retains the easy and fast installation that has made it a favourite among IT managers. Its central, web-based management functions for administering operating system and application, combined with its tried-and-tested system backup and restore features, ensure seamless operation and problem-free migration.

SecurE-Mail Gateway, with its specially-secured operating system and its own certificate authority, is integrated at the centre of a corporate network. The encryption and decryption procedures, along with signature and e-mail verification, do not require any additional e-mail security software at the client.
