BS7799 Comes of Age
London, 23 January 2006 – A new international standard to improve the security of information systems has been launched. Based on the original British Standard BS7799 (part 2), ISO27001 will help business suppliers and customers have greater confidence in each other, knowing that their IT management systems are more secure.
Commenting on the new standard, Baronscourt Technology Managing Director, Robert O’Brien said: “The launch of ISO27001 as the new international information security standard shows the importance of good practice in the IT sector. An increasing number of our customers are taking a more enterprise view of IT security. As corporate information is being seen in the same context as other assets such as plant and property, a more strategic and considered approach like BS7799 and now ISO27001 is required.”
The new standard is a valuable tool that all organisations can use to manage the security of their information assets as a core business activity. This can bring information security into the mainstream of good business practice. ISO27001 will enable companies to integrate information security into their overall management system more easily and companies that are already ISO9001 compliant should be more able to adopt this standard.
