Astaro and Utimaco to Enhance Network Assurance Via Gateway Encryption of Email

BURLINGTON, MA – February 2, 2006 -Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com) and Utimaco Safeware AG (www.utimaco.com) today announced that they have entered into a broad technology collaboration agreement.

Astaro plans to integrate Utimaco technology into its Unified Threat Management security architecture, and offer the world’s first security appliance integrating strong encryption and digital signature mechanisms based on the S/MIME and OpenPGP industry standards. This breakthrough in Network Assurance – protected, safe and clean networks businesses can rely on – is targeted at small and medium-sized companies who want advanced security without the complexity and costs of existing technologies. Additional details will be announced at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany in March 2006

By combining Utimaco’s cutting-edge email encryption technologies into its award-winning software Astaro Security Gateway customers will realize substantial savings in administrative time and effort as well as reductions in overall costs when compared to legacy single-purpose appliances. By delivering email security, web security, and network security on a single management platform, Astaro technology goes beyond point solutions by integrating each application with the others.

Partnering with Utimaco is another important demonstration of the power of unified threat management platforms in general and Astaro Security Gateway in particular. With Astaro’s solution, encryption, decryption, digital signature and verification are all performed on a central gateway solution allowing SMBs to seamlessly integrate email security technologies into an existing infrastructure. Demonstrating the power of integrated security appliances, encrypted email messages are also filtered by the Astaro Security Gateway appliance’s virus and content scanners, thus delivering airtight security integration without administrative effort or cost.

Small and Medium-Sized Companies

As the worldwide number of e-mail messages has doubled since 2002, there is increasing demand for economic protection against industrial espionage and cost-effective filter mechanisms in business environments. “With this new solution, Astaro and Utimaco combine their technological expertise,” said J?¶rg Horn, manager Gateway Solutions, Utimaco Safeware AG. “This agreement will be of significant benefit to SMB customers looking for easy-to-use, centralized gateway encryption instead of complicated individual solutions.”

Jan Hichert, CEO, Astaro, added: “Astaro invented the concept of Network Assurance by delivering the world’s first open-source based unified threat management system. Our announcement today continues to demonstrate both the practical and technological advantages our UTM leadership delivers for businesses around the world.”

Company-wide Security Policy

Astaro will integrate Utimaco technology in Astaro Security Gateway V7 currently planned to be available in mid-2006. Astaro Security Gateway V7 offers customers the choice of activating email encryption on the central gateway for all of the clients inside the network. Operating transparently for users, outgoing and incoming e-mail traffic is automatically encrypted and decrypted (via OpenPGP or S/MIME). Centralized security scans eliminating virus, spam and phishing attacks allow for a cost-effective and user-friendly company security policy.
