Panda Software launches the beta version of Panda MobileSecurity, the new smartphone protection tool

Panda MobileSecurity is a complete solution for protecting smartphones against virus, worms, Trojans, etc. for Symbian operating systems

This new product will include in the final version automatic updates to signature files, as well as complete tech support (via web, email or phone) and SOS Virus 24h/365d services, where suspicious files can be sent for analysis

Panda Software presents the beta version of Panda MobileSecurity, the solution for protecting smartphones based on Symbian Series 60. This new tool offers real-time protection for this device against viruses, Trojans, worms, etc., thanks to its system for scanning the internal memory, memory cards or the complete system. The product will include in the final version automatic updates and a complete support service, including SOS Virus, where suspicious files can be sent for analysis.

The application runs in parallel and without interference with the normal operation of the phone, scanning all inbound items through any transfer mechanism. Panda MobileSecurity can be customized through a range of protection settings, available on an easy-to-use interface.

“This product guarantees security of cell phone clients, with the consequent benefit for both clients and telecommunication providers, who can be sure their networks are free from threats.” says José M? Daza, director of Managed Services Business Unit. “Everything that reaches the phone, such as messages, files, vCards, etc. is scanned to prevent infection before it is installed, whether it arrives by email, MMS, infrared or Bluetooth. In addition, its features have been optimized to ensure it operates transparently to the user.”

Threats to cell phones have gone from mere concept trials to an emerging reality. The proliferation of entire malware families for these devices, such as Commwarrior or Cardtrap, with the capability of rendering the device unusable, means that the threat can no longer be ignored.

“Unfortunately, this is a natural evolution on the part of malware creators, who are constantly searching for new propagation channels” explains Luis Corrons, director of PandaLabs. “We are in the initial phases of a type of threat that will soon become a major problem given the evolution of intelligent devices, which are at the same time becoming ever more vulnerable because of the variety of functions they offer “.
