Internet Security Systems’ CEO Urges Peers to Improve Current State of Network Security
SAN JOSE, Calif. – February 17, 2006 – At the RSA Conference 2006 yesterday, Internet Security Systems (ISS) (NASDAQ: ISSX) declared that the current network security paradigm needs to change in order to mitigate the ever-changing threat landscape. In his keynote address, ISS’ CEO Thomas Noonan challenged the security industry to abandon the isolated silos of quick-fix technology so prevalent in today’s market. He noted that the industry should instead work towards an integrated, interoperable security platform whose parts work together as a system to automatically combat existing and future online threats.
“Integrated platforms represent an exciting new approach to the future of security,” said Thomas Noonan, President and CEO of Internet Security Systems. “Not only do platforms intelligently fuse together necessary best-of-breed technologies, but they allow the technologies to share information and work together much like the various components of the human body, providing seamless, comprehensive protection for enterprise networks.”
Noonan added, “Security requires a continuous source of intelligence and product protection that cannot be halted while affected vendors work on patches. Through an integrated system that automatically detects and blocks attacks of all types, organisations do not have to worry about being infected by zero-day exploits that take advantage of vulnerabilities before vendors can fix them.”
In his keynote, Noonan also detailed how integrated security platforms can serve as the foundation for the next generation of security – security on demand. Security on demand is expected to allow organizations to turn on specified security needs, such as VoIP security and SCADA protection, with the click of a button. The goal of on-demand services is to make security a crucial but simple component of network planning. Currently, security offerings from other suppliers remain complicated and require the continual purchase of specialised, separately managed appliances for each new threat that arises on the Internet. Through its Proventia® integrated security platform, infused with intelligence from ISS’ X-Force® research and development team, ISS is already executing on its security vision of the future, automatically adding capabilities to existing products to deal with the latest online threats.
