Sophos Launches New Anti-Virus Software To Support Intel-Powered Macs

Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses, spyware and spam, has announced the latest version of its Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X. The new offering provides complete protection against all known threats on the Apple Macintosh operating system, and includes support for the new Intel Duo processor powered iMac G5 and MacBook Pro products.

Available in English, Japanese, French, German and Spanish language versions, Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X, version 4.7 allows users to perform on-demand scanning of files and folders, while its on-access scanner intercepts file accesses and protects against all types of malware, including non-Mac viruses, providing a multi-layered defence against threats.

“It is important that Sophos continues to offer the highest level of virus protection to all Mac users, particularly given the recent introduction of new Intel-based products,” said Phil Wood, product manager for Macintosh products at Sophos. “Companies will now be able to use the same version of Sophos Anti-Virus, irrespective of the type of Macs deployed.”

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X enables automatic updates for all desktops, whether they are located within the office or on the road. In addition, third-party developers producing anti-virus or security products for Mac OS X are able to integrate Sophos virus scanning technology into their products in the same way that OEMs and system integrators have done on Windows and Unix platforms.
