Sourcefire Wins NetEvents “Technology Leaders 2006” Award

London, March 1, 2006: Sourcefire, Inc., the world leader in intrusion prevention, today announced that the Sourcefire 3D System was named the “Security Product of the Year” at the NetEvents 2006 “Technology Leader” Awards. The other two finalists in the Security Product category were Consentry Networks Secure LAN Controller, and TippingPoint’s X505 product.

More than 35 top European press and analysts were involved in judging the “Technology Leader Awards.” In this particular category for ‘Security Product of the Year’ the judges included industry analysts NSS Group (France) and BA Test Labs (Belgium); and journalists from SC Magazine (UK) and Information Professional (UK). On presenting the award Jan Guldentops of BA Test Labs summed up the judges decision: “Sourcefire beat the competition because the 3D System offers the best combination of security, performance, proven technology and value for money.”

Tom McDonough, President of Sourcefire said: “We are delighted to be honoured by NetEvents with this award and to be named Security Product of the Year. Sourcefire has invested heavily to ensure our customers have the most complete intrusion prevention solution available with unmatched network visibility combined with the most advanced detection and prevention capabilities in the industry. This award further validates the performance, reliability and value that our customers receive from the Sourcefire 3D System.”

Mark Fox, NetEvents founder said: “Congratulations to Sourcefire on winning the Security Product award against such strong competition. With so many industry, analyst and press representatives regularly gathering under one roof as part of the NetEvents European Press & Analyst Summit, it made sense to launch these awards and open the field to non-delegates so some of the benefits of NetEvents Press Summits can now be enjoyed by a wider circle. We were especially delighted to help in raise over $32,000 for these Cancer Research charities.”

The 2006 award is the first in what will become an annual event open to all suppliers of networking or telecommunications products or services launched and delivered in the 12 months prior to 31st January each year. The award ceremonies will be incorporated into a NetEvents Press Summit – regular 2-day events held across Europe, Asia and the USA to bring together industry leaders and the world’s press. The award is a non-profit enterprise, with all proceeds going to charity – to be shared this year between the American Cancer Society and the Prostate Project Foundation for Cancer Research.
