Smoothwall protects against Internet Explorer Direct Animation Path ActiveX exploit
Internet security specialist SmoothWall announced that users of its Corporate Guardian, SmoothGuardian and School Guardian web security and content filtering systems have protection available from the recent Microsoft Internet Explorer exploit.
Guardian’s malicious content detection blocklist has been updated to detect and block exploits of the vulnerability in the Microsoft Direct Animation Path (daxctle.ocx) ActiveX control. The vulnerability has been rated as extremely critical by Secunia.
“We have acted very quickly to update our code realising that it may not be until next month’s Patch Tuesday that Microsoft issues its patch,” commented George Lungley, managing director at SmoothWall. “We recommend that users install the Microsoft patch as soon as it is released to ensure system integrity, but Guardian will provide peace of mind and ensure system security in the interim period.”
