A closer look at the Quicken password recovery process
A couple of days ago we wrote about the backdoor discovered by Elcomsoft in the popular financial planning software Quicken. Soon afterwards, the Russian password recovery experts released a tool called Advanced Intuit Password Recovery.
Here are a couple of screenshots showing the software in action:
Advanced Intuit Password Recovery can recover lost or forgotten passwords to Intuit Quicken (*.QDT, *.QDB, *.QDF), Quicken Lawyer (*.PFL, *.BFL) and QuickBooks (.QBA, .QBW) files. Multilingual passwords are supported. Quicken versions 4 through 2007 and QuickBooks versions 3 through 2007 are supported.
For Quicken 2002 to 2007 and QuickBooks 2003 to 2007, only very short passwords can be recovered, but longer passwords can be instantly removed. Most non-US versions of Quicken and QuickBooks are supported.
