New McAfee SaaS security business unit

McAfee has created a new business unit to enhance and expand the company’s software as a service offerings. The business unit will be responsible for all products within McAfee delivered over the Internet, including security scanning services, Web and e-mail security services and remote managed host-based security software and hardware.

McAfee has established a strong leadership position in SaaS with millions of customers already using its security as a service products. This is a growing market space, analyst firm IDC predicts the worldwide IT SaaS market will reach nearly $20 billion in revenue by 2012 from just under $9 billion in 2008.

McAfee has named Marc Olesen senior vice president and general manager of the SaaS Security Business Unit. Olesen was previously vice president of SaaS business at HP and has held executive positions at Qwest Cyber Solutions and BearingPoint. He will report to DeWalt and Christopher Bolin, McAfee chief technology officer and executive vice president.

Current McAfee SaaS products and technologies include:

  • Artemis — the world’s first real-time malware intelligence service currently used by over 20 million users
  • TrustedSource — a reputation system that does real-time correlation of Web, e-mail and network traffic and feeds intelligence into McAfee gateway security products
  • McAfee SiteAdvisor — the leading Web security offering for consumers and businesses that scans 95% percent of the trafficked Web and processes billions of requests daily to protect users from malicious Web sites
  • McAfee Total Protection Service — an easy to manage security service used to protect millions of systems for organizations small and large
  • McAfee Email Security Service — a hosted email service for organizations that stops e-mail borne attacks and spam before reaching the customer’s network
  • McAfee PCI Certification Service — a simplified, easy-to-use system that lets merchants to successfully satisfy Payment Card Industry security compliance demands
  • McAfee Web Security Service and Foundstone On Demand — accurate vulnerability scanning and actionable reporting to confirm the security of an organization’s network perimeter
  • McAfee Web Protection Service — a hosted service for organizations that stops Web-borne attacks before reaching the customer’s network
  • McAfee Partner Security Service Program — offering a SaaS toolkit in the form of an online Partner Security Dashboard that allows MSPs, MSSPs, and other service providers to deliver hosted and managed services based on McAfee technology.

The McAfee SaaS Security Business Unit joins McAfee’s other business units in Network Consumer, Risk and Compliance, and Data Protection business units to provide increased focus, responsiveness, and accountability within the diverse security business. Each unit is designed to be entrepreneurial and responsive within a specific market, moving quickly to seize emerging opportunities and foster focus and familiarity within a particular market and its customers.
