Internetnews reports that the latest data breach to be discovered happened to MassMutual, a Massachussets-based insurance company. One of the company’s employees databases was accessed by a (so far) unknown unauthorized individual.
MassMutual stated that maintenance of the database in question was outsorced to a third-party vendor, who upon the discovery of the breach hired forensics specialists to investigate and get to the bottom of the unfortunate incident.
It is believed that, for the time being, the data hasn’t been misused. Another auspicious fact is that the investigation has discovered that no Social Security numbers, bank accounts or client information was exposed.
The company notified all its employees whose data has been accessed and have been offered free credit monitoring services.
