TicketWeb customers subjected to phishing after hack

Customers of TicketWeb UK, the popular British website selling event tickets, are being warned not to fall for fake emails purporting to come from the service, asking them to update their application.

“We have discovered that out TicketWeb UK direct email marketing system was exposed to unauthorised access,” warned the service in the email. “As a result, you may have received up to four emails on Saturday, February the 11th, from an unauthorised party with the subject as ‘Action Required: Update Your PDF Application’ and containing a link to update an Adobe Acrobat PDF application.”

Users who believed the email were taken to a third-party website where they were urged to enter their personal and credit card details.

TicketWeb warned the users to delete these emails without opening them, and has claimed that none of the customers’ credit card information was vulnerable during the attack, and that they moved to patch the vulnerability that allowed attackers to access the system.

Unfortunately, those who have fallen for the scam could have their credit cards misused and are advised to ask their issuers about whether it would be a good idea to cancel them or not.
