GoDaddy, on of the biggest and most popular Internet domain registrars and web hosting companies in the world, has suffered an outage on Monday that left many of its customers’ websites temporarily available.
The blackout apparently also affected DNS and email services.
According to Elizabeth Driscoll, GoDaddy’s VP of public relations, the blackout lasted a little over four hours for most customers, but no customer information was compromised.
A hacker that goes by @AnonymousOwn3r on Twitter has claimed sole responsibility for the DDoS attack that allegedly triggered the temporary unavailability of most GoDaddy services, but he didn’t say why he did it and has offered no proof of his involvement in the matter.
Although the majority of the hosted sites are now back online, the reason behind the outage has still not been confirmed by the company.
UPDATE:” The service outage was not caused by external influences. It was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS),” announced Go Daddy CEO Scott Wagner. “We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.”
