Trend Micro Expert to Address Prestigious “VB2002” Virus Bulletin Conference

Cupertino, Calif. – September 26, 2002 – Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that David Perry, Trend Micro global director of education, is addressing virus researchers at this week’s “VB2002” – the eleventh annual conference of Virus Bulletin. Perry joins other leading antivirus experts at the conference, which focuses on current issues affecting the IT community.

Perry’s VB2002 presentation is entitled “What’s the Big Idea,” and discusses fads in virus detection and system security. “In the last ten years, the world of antivirus software has seen some outlandish claims from some vendors, from the media and from the computing public”, says Perry, “this paper serves as a survey and a critique of the most egregious of these claims.”

VB2002 features educational presentation, extensive exhibitions, and opportunities for participants to discuss, exchange ideas and network with other key opinion leaders in the industry. The Virus Bulletin International Conference and Exhibition is firmly established and widely regarded as the only event focusing exclusively on the threat of computer viruses on the business and technology industries.

Perry is recognized as a leading authority on computer virus prevention. He has spent more than eleven years working with industry-leading antivirus solution providers and educating the public about safe computing practices. He speaks regularly at security events, and last week was an invited guest at the unveiling of the National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, a White House-backed initiative to protect computer security from cyber threats. He has also co-chaired a White House conference on public education and critical system security.
