Sybari Joins The Microsoft Virus Information Alliance (VIA)

E. Northport, NY (July 1, 2003) — Sybari Software, Inc., the developer of Antigen, a comprehensive antivirus, content-filtering, anti-Spam, and e-mail security solution for leading messaging and collaboration environments, today announced its selection by Microsoft for inclusion in their Virus Information Alliance, a new program offered by Microsoft and third-party vendors to help Microsoft customers obtain timely and relevant information about the latest virus threats affecting Microsoft® technology.

“This centralized, easily accessible clearinghouse of antivirus information will help save customers critical time in identifying and defending against these types of attacks,” said Andy Erlandson, director of security for Product Support Services at Microsoft. “We welcome the expertise from Sybari in helping customers maintain more secure and trustworthy computing environments.”

Sybari has been a long standing partner of Microsoft, working closely with the Exchange group. As a joining member of Microsoft’s VIA, Sybari will be able to offer Microsoft customers the ability to benefit from their extensive knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, as well as their expert e-mail monitoring services for the detection of impending threats and attacks. Sybari pioneered the use of multiple antivirus scan engines within their well regarded technology. This capability offers Microsoft’s customers access to notification services based on criteria disseminated between Sybari’s five partnering antivirus labs. Sybari continuously recommends to its customers the importance of applying a multi-level security strategy in protecting their critical networks and servers.

“Users have a reasonable expectation that their email is protected against viruses and malicious code that circulate,” said Tony Redmond, Chief Technology Officer for HP Consulting and Integration. “Over the years I’ve tracked how the Exchange team has gradually built their anti-virus capabilities, both within the basic framework of the product and by assembling top-class partnerships through the Virus Information Alliance (VIA) program and other initiatives. It’s great to see Sybari and Microsoft partner through VIA. I admire Sybari’s innovative approach to combating the virus scourge and I know that they’ll help Microsoft drive Exchange’s anti-virus capabilities forward for everyone’s benefit.

In the future the VIA consortium will offer customers additional online resources, white papers, and information on how users can preemptively defend their organizations from Internet-based threats, security breaches, and intrusion.
