Trapeze Networks Partners With Funk Software To Offer Secure Wireless LAN Solutions

PLEASANTON, Calif. – March 1, 2004 – Trapeze Networksâ„?, an award winning provider of enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility Systemsâ„?, and Funk Software, a leading developer of WLAN security and RADIUS/AAA solutions, today announced they will jointly market their secure WLAN products to enterprise customers.

The Trapeze WLAN Mobility System includes the Mobility Exchangeâ„?, Mobility Pointsâ„?, Mobility System Softwareâ„? and the RingMasterâ„? tool suite. Together they share a systemwide control plane and data plane that delivers best-in-class secure mobility for voice and data, the broadest range of wireless services at the lowest total cost of ownership.

Funk Software develops a family of WLAN security solutions based on the industry standard RADIUS and 802.1X protocols. These solutions include Odyssey® Client, an 802.1X access client, and Steel-Belted Radius®, a leading RADIUS/AAA server which handles WLAN, wired 802.1X, and remote access user authentication and security.

Together, the solutions from Trapeze and Funk Software provide complete WLAN security on a user-by-user basis. WLAN users connect to the Trapeze equipment using Odyssey Client; the equipment communicates with Steel-Belted Radius to authenticate the user and enforce authorizations and attributes for that user. Steel-Belted Radius also maintains a complete accounting record of network usage.

“We are very happy to work with Trapeze,” said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software. “Our joint solution provides customers with a total secure identity-based WLAN system that seamlessly integrates with their existing authentication and login infrastructure.”

“Steel-Belted Radius’ ability to support important security authorizations for wireless networks enable customers to leverage the maximum functionality within Trapeze’s Identity-Based Networking architecture,” said Dan Simone, co-founder and vice president of marketing and product management. “Some examples include authorizing access by time of day or day of week, personal firewall filters and enforcing user’s WLAN encryption type. The combination of Trapeze’s Mobility System and Funk’s Steel-Belted Radius allows IT managers to centrally implement all of these authorizations on a per user basis.”

“We wanted to fully exploit the secure-mobility of Trapeze’s Identity-Based Networking architecture by leveraging our existing Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory,” said Douglas Burns, information technology director at Ohlone College. “Funk’s Steel-Belted Radius servers provide the ideal integration with LDAP to permit Trapeze to enforce each wireless user’s network permissions based on their identity.”

As part of the joint marketing effort, Funk Software is adding a Trapeze specific dictionary of user attributes and online support for the Trapeze Mobility System in their next release of Steel-Belted Radius. With this strategic partnership, customers can more rapidly leverage and more quickly deploy the benefits of Trapeze’s Identity-Based Networking architecture in conjunction with Funk Software’s products.
