InfluxData unveils InfluxDB Cloud 2.0, a serverless time series platform

InfluxData, creator of InfluxDB and pioneer of the modern time series database, announced the general availability of InfluxDB Cloud 2.0, the first serverless time series platform, purpose-built to meet the specialized requirements of today’s time-sensitive workloads.

InfluxDB Cloud was designed to improve the entire developer experience – so they can work faster and be more productive. The new product includes a free rate-limited tier, transparent usage-based pricing and advanced analytic capabilities that allow customers to convert data into actionable information.

Organizations are trying to gain a competitive edge by tracking, measuring and analyzing every metric possible. The amount of data being produced worldwide is expected to grow nearly fivefold by 2025 to 175 zettabytes per year (IDC), driven by the proliferation of IoT sensors, serverless infrastructure, containerization and microservices.

Most of this is time-stamped data generated at high-frequency and in great volumes that requires rapid ingestion and real-time querying to extract maximum value. Relational and non-serverless databases and monitoring services struggle to handle the scale of these workloads in a cost-effective manner.

“InfluxDB Cloud 2.0 provides a cost-disruptive, highly customizable time series platform that allows developers and operators the flexibility they need to scale their applications while keeping our brand promise of ‘time to awesome,’” said Evan Kaplan, CEO of InfluxData. “Just point your collection agent at Influx and start working with your data.”

“Time series data is becoming increasingly important across a range of applications, notably operational and IoT analytics. Cloud and web developers today expect convenient access to specialist data engines,” said James Governor, analyst and co-founder at RedMonk.

“InfluxDB Cloud 2.0 is designed for developer experience, to make time series data easier to work with.”

InfluxDB Cloud 2.0 is a purpose-built platform that collects, stores, queries, processes and visualizes raw, high-precision, time-stamped data. With rapid ingestion rates (millions of metrics per second), and highly efficient compute, downsampling and compression functions, InfluxDB Cloud 2.0 can outperform non-specialized time series solutions by up to 100x.

It provides customers real-time observability into their systems and supports a wide range of customer applications, including SLA-related monitoring around key business metrics for e-commerce sites, real-time monitoring of wind turbines for business insights to refine operations, click-stream analysis and real-user monitoring for better customer experience and dynamic pricing based on usage patterns and resource availability.

“We are in the business of creating a better email experience for our customers,” said Dylan Ferreira, lead site reliability engineer at FuseMail.

“InfluxDB Cloud 2.0 features a unified API, for seamless integration of our applications across all environments. We can now react faster to changes in customer demand on our application, which helps us to meet customer SLAs.”

“As a growing cloud company, we can’t afford for our service to go down,” said Alfi Delacruz, director of product development at Cascadeo. “InfluxDB Cloud is incredibly scalable, so our engineers spend less time supporting storage infrastructure and more time driving product development that is critical to our business.”

InfluxDB Cloud 2.0 also features Flux, the new data scripting and query language, which can extract more complex and valuable insights from data, better detect anomalies and enable real-time action with alerts and notifications.

The new user interface and getting-started process were designed around developer happiness and faster time to productivity, and include native client library collections and pre-built dashboards and scripts for common monitoring projects, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Nginx, Redis and more.
