ActivCard Launches Advanced Remote Access Solution for Secure Identity Management
Provides Strong ROI and Up to 75 Percent Cost Reductions Over Leased Tokens
FREMONT, Calif., March 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — ActivCard(R) (Nasdaq: ACTI; Nasdaq Europe: ACTI), the leader in IDentity Management (IDM) software, today announced the worldwide availability of ActivPack(TM) AAA Server 5.2 and ActivPack(TM) for Windows(R) 4.5, offering a secure remote access system that enables dramatic reductions in remote access costs — as much as 75% for global enterprises — compared to the total cost of ownership (TCO) of leased token alternatives. ActivPack also offers customers the ability to move beyond a token approach to multi-function authentication solutions with the same back-office infrastructure for secure dial-up, VPN, web, and wireless LAN access.
The new upgraded versions of ActivPack provide four key new features sought by IT managers, security officers and remote access system administrators responsible for managing remote access:

Secure Windows Login replaces Windows Login credentials with OTP. Its increased security benefits make users happy by eliminating the need to remember long, complex passwords that change every 30 days.
Securing The Enterprise Wireless LAN
ActivPack’s new versions help secure wireless LAN access and close well-known security loopholes by adding strong authentication to leading 802.1x solution providers such as Microsoft(R), Cisco(R), and Funk(R) or VPN providers such as Check Point(TM), Cisco(R), and Vernier(TM) Networks.
Secure Server-based Virtual Desktop Access
ActivPack’s new secure terminal server access allows users to secure their connections to server computing environments, including Citrix Metaframe and Microsoft Terminal Server. This type of support is a boon to IT organizations that have added server-based computing to their infrastructure to cut costs. The ActivPack login provides additional security without adding extra steps for the end-user.
Only Remote Access Solution That Plugs Into LDAP Directory
The ActivPack AAA Server 5 series is the first authentication server to plug directly into any enterprise’s existing LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) directory. ActivPack fully integrates with all v3 LDAP-compliant directories, enabling users and their access rights to be managed centrally without the need to modify the existing corporate directory infrastructure. This eliminates costly dual administration of remote access users. Unlike with the RSA Secure ID(R) token system, there is no necessity to manage a separate database of users.
