Cleveland to Host First Information Security Summit in Great Lakes Region

Two-day Event Addresses Protection of Nation’s Critical Infrastructure September, 2003 – Cleveland, Ohio – The Information Technology Training Institute of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is hosting the inaugural Information Security Summit at Tri-C’s East Campus in Highland Hills, Ohio on October 14 and 15, 2003. Six top security associations; InfraGard, Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS International) and Ohio Kentucky Indiana Tennessee Security Group (OKIT) have worked in cooperation to hold this event.

The Information Security Summit – the first of its kind in the Great Lakes region – blends professional insight from business, legal, law enforcement, technology and education. This two-day event strives to facilitate the skills and education needed to secure the nation’s critical infrastructure from both the cyber and physical security perspective.

The Information Technology Training Institute is committed to providing awareness of critical security concerns and focuses on providing certification training and education to support the ongoing security needs”, said Sherry Jones, Executive Director of Strategic Technology for the Workforce and Economic Development Division at Cuyahoga Community College. “We are currently working with Microsoft , (ISC)2, CompTIA and others to bring to our community the best in Security, Forensics and InfoSec Certification training.”

Three presentation tracks – CEO/CIS Management, Legal/Law and Policy, and Professional/Technical along with three hands-on classroom labs- will be offered. Attendees of the Information Security Summit can earn 1.6 continuing education credits (CEUs) through Cuyahoga Community College. Participants of the Summit are also encouraged to register for the Hack Tour and Challenge to learn the methods used in such illicit activity and strategies to protect against it. According to Toni Paoletta, ISS 2003 Committee Chairwoman, the event will focus on topics such as best security practices, identity management, computer forensics, HIPPA, and ISO 17799.
