PGP Security and Rainbow Technologies Partner to Secure Electronic Transactions and Communications

Partnership Incorporates Private Key Technology to Enable Secure Transfer Of Information for All Users Regardless of Location

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 9 /PRNewswire/ — PGP Security, a Network Associates Company (Nasdaq: NETA), today announced a partnership with Rainbow Technologies (Nasdaq: RNBO), a leading provider of Internet and eCommerce security solutions, to improve security for electronic transactions and communications. PGP Security’s private key technology will be incorporated into Rainbow’s iKey authentication-token family, which enables users to store their private keys securely on the token rather than on a PC where it is vulnerable to unauthorized access and privacy.

“Smart tokens allow users to carry their private information with them at all times, without the burden of laptops,” said Jeff Jones, vice president of marketing at PGP Security. “Incorporating private keys in these devices provides users with the ability to secure sensitive information regardless of their location. Additionally, it enhances the security of their private key, no one else can access it.”

Companies are increasingly using the Internet as a business-critical platform to collaborate across locations and organizations. While this platform enables business growth, it also adds new security concerns that must be addressed to ensure the privacy of information as it is stored, transferred and accessed. PGP Security’s private keys are used to secure sensitive information such as financial and health care records as it moves between partners, employees and customers. By storing their private key on a smart token, users eliminate the need for software or hard copies of the key, ensuring that no one else can access it and subsequently access their confidential information.

“The integration of PGP’s private keys with Rainbow’s iKey authentication token combines one of the industry’s best-in-breed privacy technology with the market’s leading two-factor authentication token,” said Robert Shields, senior director of strategic marketing, Rainbow Technologies. “For customers, it’s the best of both worlds. The combination of powerful privacy and security technology will accelerate the adoption of security solutions as a critical requirement of organizations seeking to protect their business-critical data. We are excited to be working with PGP Security to further increase the functionality of today’s leading workstation security solution.”

Rainbow’s iKey is a powerful, two-factor authentication token. This “smart token” workstation security solution functions in the same manner as a smart card, but does not require a reader and is easily installed in the USB port of a desktop or notebook computer. The iKey 1000 series is a cost-effective security token for B2C loyalty and branding, Microsoft Windows 2000 security and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) applications. The iKey 2000 series is designed for B2B, enterprise security, and other sophisticated Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) applications.

The iKey places a user’s credentials, or digital identity, directly on the cryptographically secure token itself, so the user’s credentials no longer need to be stored on a client PC or notebook. Unless a computer system has a high level of assurance as to the identity of the user, the iKey should not allow that user access to sensitive data or services. The iKey’s powerful two-factor authentication, such as something you know (for example, a password and PIN number) and something you hold (for example, a secure token), and easy-to-use, easy-to-install form factor make it a popular workstation security choice.
