File Encryption for User Groups with Sensitve Fields of Work
New Generation of SafeGuard LAN Crypt creates Data Security for User Groups in all Environments, also for Server-based Computing and Outsourcing
Oberursel, August 26, 2003 – SafeGuard LAN Crypt by Utimaco Safeware is a security solution for the automatic encryption of selected directories or files. By the allocation of keys, users or user groups are able to access encrypted data. Thus, work groups or departments with sensitive fields of work, e.g. management board, executives, human ressources and finance, can protect their shared directories or individual sensitive files from unauthorized access of other users, including the system administrators. The certificate-based control of access rights by key allocation enables a separation of control and operation of the network. This way, administration and service can be outsourced to external service providers without risk as they are not able to access the encrypted data.
New with version 3 is the integration of the Microsoft Crypto-API, so that now any X.509 certificates can be used for the authentication of users when accessing keys and key profiles. This enables the integration of SafeGuard LAN Crypt into existing certificate-based security policies. If required, it can also generate simple certificates and thus does not require PKI investments. Compared with other solutions, SafeGuard LAN Crypt enables the use of smartcards, USB tokens and also TPM security chips (Trusted Platform Module). Thus, a compulsory binding of the user to a secure client is possible when sensitive data is processed.
SafeGuard LAN Crypt can be administrated in a central and flexible way by administration drafts, which e.g. can be used in the Microsoft Management Console optionally with Active Directory or System Policies. Thus, security officers, other than with the Encrypting File System by Microsoft, can also create and administrate encryption rules for any server drives and local data media.
The combination of SafeGuard LAN Crypt and SafeGuard Advanced Security, a security solution for certificat-based authentication and integrity protection in the operating system and SingleSignOn, enables an extensive protection of confidential data with Server-based Computing.
