Futronic launches FS50 two finger scanner

Futronic unveiled the FS50, a portable fingerprint scanner with 1.6 x 1.5 inch (40.64 x 38.10 mm) scanning area. Its advanced optical system can capture 800 x 750 pixels and 500 DPI image in 0.1 second.

The large finger scanning area can capture two flat fingerprints and rolled fingerprint which are now essential for law enforcement, border control and national ID applications. It can handle bad fingers such as dry, wet, blurred and scarred without any problem. Its scanning window is crown glass prism and there is special anti-scratching coating on the scanning surface.

FS50 received FBI certification for compliance with PIV-071006 Image Quality Specification. This means that it meets the US Federal Information Processing Standard 201 (FIPS 201) for Personal Identification Verification (PIV) of Federal Employees and Contractors. The FIPS 201 was developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). It is for enhancing the security of Federal facilities and information systems by applying stricter access control.

Futronic provides Application Programming Interface (API) for FS50 to capture fingerprint image on Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 for 32 and 64 bit, as well as Windows CE 5.0/6.0 and Linux with kernel 2.4 or higher.
