EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. 2, 2001–Sybari Software, Inc., the premier developer of Antigen, a comprehensive antivirus, content-management, and e-mail security solution for Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino groupware servers, today reports that Antigen’s Worm Purge and File Filtering have scored high-marks with Antigen users in the fight against one of the most destructive e-mail viruses since the “Love” virus.
This new e-mail worm virus known as “SIRCAM” has been causing havoc on corporate networks since July 12.
SIRCAM was raised to a high-risk virus last week and continues to spread quickly across the Internet. Since this e-mail worm takes on a different name each time its sends itself to the next victim, Antigen’s unique Worm Purge(TM) takes top honors in best defense. Antigen Worm Purge scans an incoming e-mail attachment before it hits the mail server and looks within the attachment for the actual worm code. Once this code is detected, the e-mail is automatically purged from the system, therefore eliminating the risk of propagation or network intrusion. Based on feedback from Antigen customers, Antigen Worm Purge delivered the superior protection they needed and successfully stopped the spread of SIRCAM as well as other serious viruses.
ANTIGEN CUSTOMER REACTIONS
“Antigen software works as advertised and I am so impressed. Starting on Saturday, July 21st, around 9AM, Antigen started to purge the SIRCAM worm right out of our Exchange IMC. We’ve had nearly 2,000 individual hits on SIRCAM alone so far, but not one got through! Finding software in today’s market that I can crow about is RARE. I knew Sybari’s product was good, but it has exceeded my expectations. I can go to my VP and tell him with certainty that SIRCAM will not be a problem for us.” Joseph Ambrose, system and network manager, The Conference Board.
“Up until about 5 weeks ago we did not have any virus protection on our mail server, so I downloaded and installed the evaluation version of Sybari Antigen. We were only in our 1st week of using Antigen when the homepage virus came in and I was notified immediately! I sold it to my boss and now we “choke” it out at the server! The “*.vbs” file filter eliminates VBS scripts completely regardless if we have the vaccination or not. BYE, BYE hackers. You guys have cured the common cold! We are now running the full version of Antigen and I don’t have to worry about calls from our help desk at 6:30 in the morning.” Sean Coumans, network manager, Spears Manufacturing Co.
“Antigen really took the pressure off us. Previous solutions didn’t protect us, but since we’ve been using Antigen, it’s been smooth sailing.” Mark Anderson, IS administrator, W.H. Porter, Inc.
“We didn’t have any worries about SIRCAM. I have been in this field for a number of years and worked with many of the top anti-virus programs on the market. Hands down, Antigen is the best and almost maintenance free. The best thing about it….it works.” David Cook, exchange systems engineer, Banks Corporation.
“During the several months we’ve been using Antigen, our campus e-mail system has been completely protected from virus infections. Antigen has caught and cleaned many email messages containing the SIRCAM virus, as well as other dangerous viruses.” Mary Preziosi of New England Institute of Technology.
“We instituted Antigen smoothly and effortlessly a few months ago, and it’s been running without a hitch ever since. In fact, not one virus has passed through our exchange server since we implemented Antigen. Keep up the good work.” Sean Martin, network administrator, Ribelin, Lowell and Company.
Another Antigen feature that has been a proven winner during worm outbreaks is Antigen File Filtering (AFF). AFF enables users to filter an e-mail attachment by filename, with wildcards, and by file type. This unique feature will delete and/or quarantine file attachments meeting the filter criteria of messages entering or exiting groupware environments. Attachments may be scanned by actual name (such as Sircam) or by file type (.vbs, .jpg, .exe, etc.). If files are sent in a ZIP archive, AFF will scan “in-memory” each file enclosed in the archive. Once a matching file is detected, AFF will automatically delete or quarantine it depending on the criteria specified by the administrator. The intended recipient will then receive a notification message alerting them that the file was deleted or quarantined. If a file is quarantined, a copy will be kept and may be opened by the administrator. The administrator also has the option to forward the quarantined attachment to the intended recipient after being reviewed.
