Cyber Chief Magazine brings you the tactics to uncover and neutralize the insider threat

SiteStripper Increases Productivity, Manages Resources and Enforces Policies to Prevent Employees from Accessing Prohibited Websites

Pleasanton, CA — September 6, 2002 Ositis Software, Inc., a leading developer of security and Internet access technologies, announces today it is shipping SiteStripper, a high throughput gateway site filter appliance. SiteStripper removes offensive web sites from the data stream at the network gateway and is a transparent appliance for the management of users’ World Wide Web access. This easy-to-use and configure hardware solution integrates Secure Computing Corporation’s (Nasdaq: SCUR) market-leading SmartFilterâ„? OEM On-Boxâ„? technology and Ositis’ Security Appliance Platformâ„? (OSAP) technology to scan requested URLs and to ban viewing of prohibited sites.

As a network bridge, SiteStripper integrates seamlessly into any TCP/IP network infrastructure (average installation time is just 10 minutes) for complete and instant protection against undesirable Internet usage. SiteStripper features Secure Computing’s SmartFilter international URL Control List, which categorizes millions of Web sites into 30 distinct content groups, including pornography, gambling, chat and MP3. Comparison of user’s requests to a known, highly accurate, and customizable list of prohibited URLs, SiteStripper blocks objectionable websites automatically. The SmartFilter List is automatically updated and available over the Internet. SiteStripper enables organizations to enforce their Web-usage policy in real-time. The product features logs, alerts and broad customization of prohibited site lists, as well as segmentation of users into groups with different usage policies.

“SiteStripper helps companies realize an immediate return on investment (ROI) as a result of increased employee productivity, recaptured network bandwidth and reduces legal liability,” said Vilis Ositis, president and CEO of Ositis Software.

The keys to successful business growth are management of company productivity, personnel and resources. SiteStripper allows an organization to curtail non-work related downloads and surfing. The alerting and logging features can inform employers of prohibited employee activity with real-time notifications, and site violation attempts are sent via email or pager to the network administrator. SiteStripper can also send pop-up notices to inform employees of company announcements or web-usage policy.

“SiteStripper is the ideal solution for companies and institutions who need to supervise, document and/or restrict Internet usage. SiteStripper’s sophisticated software provides an average 10 minute installation time which saves IT Directors hours and hours of configuration time, and the easy-to-use interface allows administrators to customize different types of user access as well as alerts, logs and reporting, ” said Leslie Ross, Director of Sales for Ositis. “Testing with our customers has been resoundingly positive.”

“Our partnership with Ositis brings to market a fast URL filtering appliance to prevent inappropriate use of the Internet,” said Chris Peterson, vice president of OEM and channel sales at Secure Computing. “SmartFilter’s On-Boxâ„? technology makes it the OEM de facto standard for embedded Web filtering because its superior architecture and highly accurate control list facilitate tight integration with gateway appliances.”
