LIUtilities WinBackup

As LIUtilities, developer of this program notes, creating backups of important files on a regular basis is probably one of the easiest and cheapest ways to protect irreplaceable data, emails and personal files from all sorts of technical disasters.

WinBackup installs in several seconds, as the main installation file is only 1.55 MB in size.

While starting the program, the Backup Wizzard function opens and guides users through the program usage. As you can see from the screen shot, this function looks like a stick-it note and is actively present in the WinBackup window. Actively means that if you are following the instructions and using the program, the wizard always stays near, making it easy to continue your “wizard work” and successfully create a backup job.

Adding the files to the current backup job

User can create multiple jobs and configure each of them. Every job has its name, included directories or files and its schedule. The schedule can be set for daily, weekly and monthly backups at the desired time in the HH:MM:SS format.

Every backup job is highly customizable as the software gives you the possibility of excluding file types, stopping processes before creating backups, compressing data, splitting the backups (useful for people who are still using floppy disks) and making a choice if the new backup should replace the previous one or just update it with new files.

Scheduling a daily backup job

From the security perspective, password protection possibility is a must for this kind of product. This function is optional, so with entering the appropriate password, user has the ability of choosing 128 or 256 bit AES encryption. For faster backups and for usage in trustful secure environments, users can choose not to use encryption which has a low level of security, as the files are being compressed.

Setting the password and encryption level

WinBackup supports a variety of backup medias including Hard Drives, USB drives, CDR, CDRW, DVD-R and DVD-RW.

My final thoughts on this piece of software is that the developers bundled all the needed back up functions in a small and easy to use product. I highly recommend it for anyone who has lot of backups to do and wants to make his/her job much easier with this level of automation. The price of $29.95 should make the software even more interesting for the possible user.
