Partners HealthCare Chooses Neoteris to Deliver Instant Secure Access to Medical Information

Partners HealthCare to Provide its Diverse User Community with Secure Access to Patient Records and Information via Neoteris IVE, Eliminating Complexities of VPN Access

SAN DIEGO – Feb. 10, 2003 – Neoteris, the leading provider of instant virtual extranet (IVE) products, today announced that Partners HealthCare, an integrated health care system that provides services from preventive primary care to long-term care, is rolling out Neoteris’ IVE to deliver secure access to healthcare applications and patient information for doctors and users on the go. The IVE will be demonstrated this week at the Healthcare and Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2003 Annual Conference and Exhibition in San Diego in Neoteris’ Booth No. 1551.

Partners HealthCare, founded in 1994, provides an integrated healthcare delivery system that offers patients a continuum of coordinated high-quality care, including primary care and specialty physicians, community hospitals, academic medical centers, specialty facilities, community health centers, and other health-related entities. Powered by Neoteris’ IVE, member physicians and administrators now remotely access the Partners Community Healthcare Inc. network (PCHInet), a secure portal of healthcare applications, patient records and test results, general medical information, and message boards, from any computing device enabled with a Web browser. The IVE interoperates with RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication, from RSA Security (NASDAQ: RSAS), which is Partners HealthCare’s strong authentication technology of choice for two-factor authentication for Neoteris.

“The Neoteris IVE gives our diverse community of users access to the information they need wherever they are,” said Scott Rogala, Partners HealthCare corporate manager of network engineering. “Our VPN was not optimal for delivering application access wherever our users needed, but the IVE has solved our remote access problems and has taken the complexity out of remote access for us. It simply makes sense to deliver access through the clientless, browser-based IVE, and users are very happy with the experience. Our goal is to do the best things for the patients, and providing access to PCHInet through the IVE enables our caregivers and administrators more widespread access to the information they need to give our patients the best care possible. The fact that the IVE works seamlessly with our RSA SecurID infrastructure was important in our selection of Neoteris, as well.”

The healthcare industry is re-tooling the way it handles protected health information (PHI) to comply with the upcoming Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), in addition to maintaining status required by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and individual state legislations. Neoteris’ IVE helps healthcare organizations provide electronic access to PHI and applications while complying with HIPAA’s security and privacy regulations in areas of authentication, encryption, information access and audit controls, alarms, auditing, and more. The IVE supports extremely granular access controls to the URL and/or file level, so only those with a legitimate authorized need to access specific resources can do so; industry-leading authentication methods such as dual-factor solutions and client-side digital certificates, ensuring that those accessing records are who they claim to be; and audit/event reporting per user and per event, which makes it easy to track users’ activities.

“Partners HealthCare is enhancing patient care, teaching and research through its integrated healthcare system, and we are pleased to help them in their mission by providing their diverse user community access to the information they need through the IVE,” said Neoteris President and CEO Krishna “Kittu” Kolluri. “With Neoteris’ IVE, healthcare organizations are certain of the privacy of their patients’ records and networked information, in accordance to HIPAA requirements and basic good business practices.”

Neoteris’ IVE products allow healthcare administrators to cost-effectively provision instant, secure access for caregivers to specified network applications and patient information. With caregivers’ time and patients’ security and privacy in mind, the Neoteris products reduce the cost, complexity and security risks associated with traditional access technologies such as virtual private networks and custom extranets. The IVE requires neither a client computing device nor software deployments, nor changes to existing LAN infrastructure, greatly reducing deployment time to a matter of hours. See for more information on how the IVE is helping secure access to health information for improved patient care, and is providing a key component to healthcare organizations’ HIPAA compliance operations.

Neoteris IVE Secure Access Appliances
The Neoteris Access* Series provides enterprise-class secure access to network resources for remote employees, customers, and partners. Contrary to other access technologies, there is no client software to install because Neoteris leverages Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secure, controlled access to resources via any Web browser. The result is a more cost-effective, secure access solution that is easy for customers to deploy and simple for end-users to operate. Neoteris IVE appliances offer application-layer access, stringent access controls, and sophisticated auditing capabilities to further minimize IT headaches and security concerns. The Neoteris IVE has passed rigorous security audits by TruSecure Corporation, Cryptography Research, Inc., and security and forensic computing expert Dan Farmer. The product has also won numerous awards for creating an innovative and compelling access solution, helping enterprises increase efficiency and productivity.
