F-Secure’s New Home Product Stops Modern Network Worms, Hackers, Phishing and Spyware

Helsinki, Finland, October 4th 2004 – F-Secure Corporation (HEX: FSC) today announced the immediate availability of F-Secure Internet Security 2005 and F-Secure Anti-Virus 2005. Both products are targeted for home users as well as for small companies without IT departments, and include anti-spyware and a rescue CD. In addition F-Secure Internet Security 2005 provides total security against Internet threats including fully featured antivirus, firewall and daily security updates with industry leading response times for new threats. The new improved product also includes anti-spyware, parental control, anti-spam, anti-dialer, leak test protection, a rescue CD feature and an automatic up-date agent.

The F-Secure Internet Security 2005 product includes a number of new security-improving features. Anti-spyware protects against legitimately, if inadvertently, installed harmful programs that are often installed with popular applications such as file-sharing networks. Leak protection prevents a hidden program that is installed on the user’s machine from sending personal and confidential user information to servers on the Internet. Parental Control protects younger Internet users against inappropriate content on the network. The software can also be configured to block Internet pages that contain references to undesired subjects.

Anti-Spam filters unsolicited email and also reduces ‘phishing’ attacks. Anti-dialer prevents modem calls to expensive ‘service numbers’ while the machine is not in use and without the user’s knowledge. The new automatic update agent provides daily virus definition updates, parental control updates and anti-spam updates automatically downloaded and installed, as well as program updates and security configuration updates. Also security news about new threats are sent directly to users. F-Secure Internet Security 2005 is Windows XP SP 2 compliant straight from the box and integrates directly to the Microsoft Security Center.

“Today’s Internet world is plagued with dangers for the average home computer user. Millions of users connect their machines through high-speed broadband DSL and cable connections 24/7. With an ever-widening spectrum of threats, finding a balance between total security without overwhelming the user with complicated security software is becoming increasingly difficult”, said Ilkka Ranta, Product Marketing Manager of F-Secure Corporation. “The F-Secure Internet Security 2005 product feature list contains all the tools needed to protect a user’s PC and data. The product constantly updates itself and its databases automatically, and this makes it a very easy solution for the user”, he continues.
