State Of Louisiana’s Criminal Justice System Secured With Joint 3Com, Tippingpoint Solution
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. August 8, 2005 – Seeking to increase the security of its more than 45,000 court cases and investigations, the State of Louisiana Criminal Justice System deployed a TippingPointTM Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) from the TippingPoint division of 3Com on its 3Com-based gigabit Ethernet network. The decision to upgrade its security has proved to be a sound investment.
Shortly after deploying the TippingPoint IPS, the security solution averted the justice system from what could have been a serious security breach. One of the justice system’s service providers inadvertently transmitted malicious code that sought to change the settings of the justice system’s border gateway protocol (BGP) routers, potentially bringing much of the system to a standstill. The TippingPoint IPS immediately located the threat, blocked it and traced it back to the IP address of the service provider’s offending device.
