Panda Software protection for Samba servers, certified by West Coast Labs

Panda SambaSecure Antivirus, Panda Software’s solution for protecting Samba servers, has recently received Checkmark certification for its protection against malware, from the world-renowned West Coast Labs independent security laboratories. The certification covers two levels: Checkmark Level 1 and Checkmark Level 2, and is a measure of the excellent capabilities of this anti-malware solution.

Checkmark Level 1 states that a security product is able to detect all malware in the “In the Wild” list generated by The Wildlist Organization International, and comprising those threats that have been seen in circulation by more than one person. Checkmark Level 2, on the other hand, certifies the capacity to disinfect the malware in this list. This concept includes aspects such as ensuring that a virus that has been detected by an anti-malware product cannot reinfect, or that an infected file, after having been cleaned, is undamaged and can be used normally.

“Windows and Linux are increasingly having to coexist in large corporate environments, given that both offer advantages in certain aspects which can’t be ignored”, explains Paula Quiros, director of the corporate business unit at Panda Software. “There is a fundamental need to protect Samba file servers for Linux/Windows in order to combat malware wherever it lurks, and Checkmark certification supports the effectiveness of our solutions”.

Panda SambaSecure Antivirus is an integrated anti-malware solution for protecting Samba servers in companies that share resources between Linux and Windows platforms. It also offers a professional and reliable option for businesses looking for high service levels with automatic updates and personalized support in technologically dynamic and evolving environments such as the Linux server market.

SambaSecure offers effective, real-time antivirus protection for all files, including compressed formats. In addition, directories shared via Samba servers will be completely protected from viruses, worms and Trojans. If the file is a symbolic link (a file pointing to another file or directory), SambaSecure Antivirus also ensures the security of the target file, regardless of where it is located. It is also possible to carry out immediate and scheduled on-demand scans of any directory on the server. In this way, as it is not exclusively limited to shared files, SambaSecure Antivirus detects and eliminates malware and that could have reached the server through other channels.

Panda Software has a robust product range for protecting Linux, including mail platform protection with SendmailSecure, QmailSecure and PostfixSecure, as well as low-level protection with CommandlineSecure, also available for Win32 and MS-DOS, and SambaSecure.

This certification of Panda SambaSecure Antivirus comes in addition to those received by other products, both corporate and consumer, with respect to detection of viruses and Trojans. For more information about awards and certifications received by this product, go to:
