Portucel chooses Panda EnterpriSecure to protect its corporate network
Portucel has chosen Panda EnterpriSecure to protect its corporate IT resources -more than 1000 computers across different locations in Portugal- against all types of threats. The cooperation between the two companies to ensure the security of computer systems goes back to 2001, and since then has been periodically renewed. “The centralized management offered by this solution is extremely important to Portucel, as is the ease of installation in computers spread over such a large area,” explains Joao Braga, from the IT department at Portucel.
The company has two centers, in Setubal and Cacia, with dozens of servers and almost a thousand workstations. The makeup of its IT resources is varied, with computers ranging from Pentium II to Pentium 4, and QMail or Domino servers. “One of the main advantages of the Panda Software solution is its scanning and traffic filtering in Qmail servers, preventing infected e-mail from entering through this channel,” says Braga, who also underlined the importance of frequent antivirus updates as another reason behind the choice.
The benefits of implementing Panda EnterpriSecure were felt immediately: “There was a reduction in the number of incidents requiring helpdesk staff, and also in workstation downtime.” The integration of the solution also had positive knock-on effects on network efficiency: “The removal of parasite traffic boosted the overall efficiency of the network.”
Centralized management of AdminSecure, the administration console, combined with the use of two simple repositories (each able to serve some 3,000 computers), ensures the scalability of the system. It also reduces to a minimum the need for external communication in order to update signature files across the entire network. The entire process is completely automatic, with no need for administrator intervention, providing highly effective antivirus protection in just a few seconds. The solution is backed up by a complete support service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. “There is nothing we can fault with this solution, neither from a technical point of view, nor when it comes to Panda Software’s tech support team,” confirms Braga.
