Secure file transfers for IBM z/OS mainframes
SSH Communications Security and Software Diversified Services (SDS), a supplier of TCP/IP monitoring and file transfer solutions for IBM z/OS mainframes, announced a comprehensive encryption and secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP) automation solution for IBM mainframe customers. Through this partnership, SDS will distribute and support a bundled solution combining SSH Tectia; Server for IBM z/OS and the new SDS FTP Manager (SFM) 2.0 product.
Together, SSH Tectia and SFM 2.0 increase the level of security for enterprises conducting batch file transfers on IBM mainframes by combining robust data security with advanced monitoring and management functionality. The combined solution provides enterprise customers with near-effortless, snap-in SSH protocol-based encryption for FTP file transfers to and from IBM z/OS mainframes, without requiring any changes to Job Control Language (JCL) jobs, data files or application infrastructure. In addition, SFM 2.0 seamlessly integrates an IBM FTP client to the advanced security and encryption services of the SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS product.

SFM 2.0 enables real-time monitoring of IBM z/OS mainframe batch file transfers, as well as secure traffic through SSH Tectia clients and servers via a single, intuitive GUI interface. SFM 2.0 automates FTP processes, secures individual FTP commands, and provides comprehensive audit trails to ensure compliance with key government regulations. In addition, it provides the FTP Control Language (FCL) for IBM mainframe batch jobs to log and retry failed transfers, while also alerting the attending operator when automated recovery fails.ÂÂ
SSH Tectia ensures that file transfers being monitored by SFM 2.0 are protected against malicious threats. SFM 2.0 further addresses FTP security shortcomings by integrating the z/OS FTP server with mainframe System Authorization Facility (SAF) security (RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret).

The additional layer of security from SSH Tectia enables SFM 2.0 users to meet the stringent data security standards as required by government and industry regulations, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). SFM’s robust monitoring and auditing of SFTP and Secure Copy (SCP) file transfers — the secure protocols used by SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS — provides powerful oversight, diagnostics and proof of regulatory compliance.
