Cybercriminals exploit California bush fires

Cybercriminals are not known for their high moral standards, so it comes as no surprise they are using people’s concern and interest regarding the California bush fires as a lure to get them to access websites filled with malware and fake antivirus products. The same thing happened in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Trend Micro reports that search terms like “california fires map” result in links to malware filled websites like angocafe.com or lifepromotion.com.

As always, to lessen the possibility of being targeted, people are advised to check well-known news websites for the latest updates on the situation.
