Hotmail gets full-session HTTPS

Firesheep‘s developers can be satisfied. Not only has Microsoft started contemplating SSL for Bing but – as of yesterday – has provided its Hotmail users with the option of using HTTPS throughout their sessions.

In addition to that, SkyDrive, Photos, Docs, and Devices pages will all automatically use SSL encryption.

“To enable HTTPS for your Hotmail inbox, calendar, and contacts, go to https://account.live.com/ManageSSL,” informs Dick Craddock, Group Program Manager for Hotmail. “Once you enable this feature, all of your future connections to Hotmail will be delivered over SSL.”

If you choose to do that, some things like Outlook Hotmail Connector and Windows Live Mail will become unavailable to you, but maybe that’s not such a steep price to pay for better security?
